Mansions, warehouses, chimneys and former industrial buildings recall the prosperity created by olive oil, soap making, shipbuilding and trade. This history still belongs to the everyday town and reveals itself naturally as you walk.

Swim at Ammoudeli, spend a full beach day at Agios Isidoros or follow the coast towards Melinda. Keep separate time for the town, an ouzo museum and an unhurried meal.

For another view of the region, drive into the Plomari villages. Megalochori is tied to the area’s older roots, while Akrasi, Ambeliko, Neochori, Palaiochori, Plagia and Trygonas make rewarding short outings.
