Megalochori, Old Plomari

About ten kilometres north of the coastal town and roughly 600 metres above sea level, Megalochori is closely identified with old Plomari. Its two historic quarters, churches, square and fountain make it one of the region’s most important inland stops.

The village churches

Agios Ioannis Theologos dates from 1795, while the church of the Panagia and Transfiguration dates from 1797. Their carved icon screens reflect the importance of the village at the end of the 18th century.
