Ambeliko: A Village beneath Mount Olympos

Ambeliko stands on the western side of Mount Olympos. Its medieval tower, Agios Nikolaos and collections devoted to folklore, church heritage and pine resin give the village an identity well beyond its size.

The medieval tower

The surviving Gattilusi-period tower is Ambeliko’s most distinctive monument. View it from safe public ground and respect any access restrictions around the structure.

Agios Nikolaos and the collections

The church and local displays bring together religious objects, everyday material and the resin-working story of the surrounding pine landscape. Tools, photographs and archival material give this mountain occupation a clear human context.

Confirm opening and local access before travelling. If the collections are closed, the tower, church and village walk still make Ambeliko a worthwhile stop.

A complete inland route

Pair Ambeliko with Akrasi and Neochori. Together they form a manageable circuit with different village forms and production histories. Keep enough daylight for the return to Plomari.
